How
does LASER treat spider veins and telangiectasias?
First,
effective cooling device is used to cool and protect
the overlying skin. The hemoglobin within both red
and blue veins absorbs the laser light that passes
through the chilled skin. This absorption converts
light into heat energy that raises the blood
temperature beyond coagulation thus altering and
destroying the blood vessel wall. The remnants of
the vein are broken up and eliminated by the body.
Is laser treatment for spider veins safe for all skin types?
We have
different lasers available at our center at all
times. So, both light and dark complexions and even
tanned skin may be treated.
What does laser treatment for spider veins feel like?
Each
pulse of laser feels like a slight sting or pinch.
No local anesthesia is required and most people
tolerate the treatment well. The effective cooling
system helps to alleviate pain. In rare occasions a
topical anesthetic cream may be used.
What can
I expect from
laser treatment for spider veins?
Most
patients note a great reduction or complete
elimination of spider and small varicose veins.
Multiple treatments may be necessary to optimize the
results. A customized laser treatment program will
be designed for you along with an estimate of how
many treatments you may need in order to meet your
expectations.
How long
is the recovery time?
Usually
no down time, though some patients can have some
mild swelling for a few hours. Following the
treatment, you can generally return to work and
resume all regular activities immediately avoiding
strenuous exercise for approximately 7-10 days.
Are
there any possible side effects for
laser treatment for spider veins?
Side effects are rare. You may experience some
slight reddening or local swelling at the site of
treatment, but this typically goes away within
hours. Bruising is possible but typically resolves
quickly. Ulceration and scar is rare. Limiting sun
exposure before and after each treatment will
minimize the risk of complications. |
