How do cosmetic dermal fillers (Restylane,
Perlane, Juvederm …etc) work?
Restylane®, Juvederm® and other fillers are
formulated as clear gels that are injected just
below the surface of the skin with a very fine
needle. Upon being injected beneath the skin's
surface, the gels add natural volume and lift the
skin to smooth out wrinkles and folds. Each
substance is integrated into dermal tissue which
then attracts and binds water molecules to help
maintain volume. Patients may require a second visit
to achieve a full correction of the area. The body
will eventually absorb the product, so ongoing
treatments are necessary to maintain results. If
treatment is discontinued, your face will gradually
return to its natural contours.
Who is a
candidate for
cosmetic dermal fillers?
No allergy testing is required and most individuals
can undergo these procedures.
If you notice smile or sad lines that you would like
to correct, or if you like to enhance the volume of
your face or lips, you are a candidate for fillers.
What can
I expect?
Results can be seen immediately following the
treatment and can last six months or longer. Fillers
with larger molecule can result in even more
enhancement for a longer duration of time.
What are
the safety & side effects of cosmetic dermal fillers (Restylane,
Perlane, Juvederm …etc)?
Injection-related reactions may occur such as post
treatment swelling, redness, pain, itchiness,
discoloration, and tenderness at the site of
injection. These reactions will resolve
spontaneously within several days.
How long
is the recovery time for
cosmetic dermal fillers
treatment?
Most patients have no down time. Patients usually
return to normal activity the same day as the
treatment.
Does it
hurt?
The amount of discomfort depends on the sensitivity
of the patient's skin. Lip enhancement can be
uncomfortable therefore patients desire a local
anesthetic prior to the treatment.
What are
the cosmetic dermal fillers pre treatment instructions?
Avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen,
naprosyn and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
medications for one week before the procedure as
these medications increase the risk of a slight
bruise. |
